The story of my art
Hi there, I’m an artist based in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales in Australia.
My art practice started many years ago as a constant sketcher and doodler. Most of my work meeting notes over the last 35 years featured drawings or a few marks that helped me understand the content I was listening to. They weren’t particularly good, but they made sense to me, and I always felt if I gave my art the time it needed I might actually turn out work that pleased me a lot more.
However career, kids and life all conspired against my art aspirations and the opportunity to really focus on art stayed as a little whisper in the back of my mind.
When I moved to the country from Sydney in 2015 the need to visually capture landscapes, ideas and atmosphere in a more colourful and structured way grew more persistent.
A road trip to Western Australia reconnected me to the landscapes I’ve always loved and by the time I got back, the call to try to put into a visual form how I felt about the world around me became compelling. I had the time, the clarity and perhaps the wisdom to prioritise my art practice.
So I picked up a brush to see what happened and found a natural connection with the very organic, slightly unmanageable and possibly magic medium that is watercolour.
I continue to take classes, consume huge amounts of content from a wide variety of artists offering demos online and I work at my art almost every day. As any artist will tell you it’s called art practice for a reason, the journey is never finished.
Will I always be a watercolourist? I’m sure I will expand to other mediums as I go, but for now, the unique technical complexity of watercolour is what holds my interest - and hopefully yours.

Also special thanks to these online artists who I continue to go back to for structured lessons (free and paid) when I hit a plateau, need inspiration or technical knowhow required to solve more complex problems. There are many, many others I have learned from via YouTube but these I keep up my sleeve because their content is so on point and contains technical instruction that helps me build my visual language.
In no particular order.
