FAQ

Everything you need to know before you press ‘buy’

What medium is your art painted in?

Unless I say otherwise on the painting description, I’m painting in watercolour medium. That includes transparent watercolour and gouache.

What paper do you paint on?

I almost always use 300gsm cotton from a range of brands. I will almost always paint on cold press or rough paper. I tend to use Baohong a lot. It’s affordable, used by professional artists around the world and is good to work with.

I do use other brands from time to time depending on what I find for sale.

If I use cellulose, also known as regular paper, I will say so. It is more delicate and not archival quality. Sometimes a cheeky little sketch on paper is just so good that I think it’s worthy of a sale. I will always say if something is on cellulose and at this stage I sell them for a little less.

What paints do you use?

My preferred brand is Daniel Smith. It’s globally recognised as one of the best out there for watercolour and used by professional artists every day.

I will sometimes use other brands but I always ensure they have the correct lightfastness ratings.

Will watercolour paintings last?

Generally speaking, good quality watercolours will last for decades if not longer if they are looked after properly.

The main things to consider are keeping them in a dry environment, keeping them out of harsh sunlight and having them framed correctly. Framers will hinge a watercolour at the top only so the paper can expand and contract with the weather and not buckle and they will seal the entire frame to keep water and dust out.

Can I send the painting back if I don’t like it?

Sorry. No.

I do understand that what you see on a bright glowing computer screen when buying art might not be exactly what you see in real life.

I am mindful of this and I ensure I take photos of my paintings in neutral light, I don’t use any filters and I try to reduce any artificial brightening the camera may add automatically. Where I can, I will scan my paintings for my website with no light adjustments so the painting you receive should be very close to what you saw online.

How will you send me my painting?

By an Australia Post mailing tube. The painting will be rolled and in a plastic sleeve. I will include a signed certificate of authenticity. Items priced at more than $100 will be insured separately with Australia Post.

Do you ship anywhere other than Australia?

Not at this stage, but if you are interested and live outside of Australia please send me an email or contact me on my socials and I’ll see what I can do to help.

What do I do if my painting is damaged or goes missing during shipping?

Let me know and we’ll see what we can do to make an insurance claim via Australia Post. Obviously I can’t replace a one-off painting with the same painting again but we can discuss how best to compensate you for a transit issue within reason.

If you have any other questions drop me a line here and I’ll do my best to get back to you. Or message me on one of my social accounts.
