27cm x 37cm
Painting relies heavily on illusion to engage with a viewer. Making a series of marks on a two dimensional plane appear to have depth and atmosphere is the constant challenge. I tested myself with this painting, using only a silicon baking spatula and a silicon pastry brush and a single colour (Paynes Grey) to try to capture an atmosphere. I wanted to focus less on precise technical painting and more on letting the shapes on the page guide me as they arrived on the paper. One idea led to the next. I liked where it ended up.
