A4 - on synthetic paper
This is one of my first paintings on synthetic paper. Often referred to as Yupo (a brand) it’s the same kind of plastic-feel paper that Australian bank-notes are made from. It’s a strange medium because you can get very different watercolour painting effects compared to painting on paper or cotton. In many ways it behaves a lot like acrylic. It’s not better or worse, just different and I like this piece just because of the dynamism I was able to add to the painting (sense of wind and movement in the water) which would be a different process on cotton. I deliberately left the sky empty to focus on the movement of particles and give the idea of a bright backlight.
